Review: Movie Rogue by William Coles
This is the second book we have read from our September 2025 Author of the Month, William Coles. If you’ve ever wondered what truly goes on behind a major film production, this book takes you right there. Set during the famously secretive filming of Eyes Wide Shut, it places Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman at the centre of a long and demanding shoot under the direction of Stanley Kubrick. The atmosphere feels intense, controlled, and quietly fascinating.
What gives the story its edge is the presence of a Sun reporter who manages to gain access to the set. Seeing this tightly protected world through an outsider’s perspective adds tension, curiosity, and moments of humour. The repeated filming of scenes and the precision demanded behind the camera highlight just how relentless the process can be.
The writing is clear and straightforward, allowing the characters and the setting to lead the way. Inspired by real events, the story feels grounded while still offering insight into fame, filmmaking, and the personalities that shape it.
For readers intrigued by film, celebrity culture, and what happens when the press meets Hollywood, this is a strong recommendation.
